LA Knight Praises Maxxine Dupri’s WWE Progress, Acknowledges Early Challenges

In an interview with Esteban Ramirez, Knight candidly admitted that Dupri wasn’t fully prepared for her debut on SmackDown in July 2022. “She’s come a long way, due to the fact that in all honesty – and this is no fault of her own – when she was first brought up, if we’re just being 100%, she was not ready,” Knight stated. He emphasized that this wasn’t a reflection of Dupri’s work ethic, but rather a result of being “thrown to the wolves” before having sufficient in-ring experience.

From Maximum Male Models to Intercontinental Champion

Dupri initially debuted as the Director of Talent for Maximum Male Models, alongside Knight (then performing as Max Dupri). Knight transitioned back to his NXT persona, LA Knight, three months later, leaving Dupri to forge her own path. Since then, she has demonstrably improved her skills and achieved notable success, including winning the Women’s Intercontinental Championship.

Despite acknowledging her initial unpreparedness, Knight expressed admiration for Dupri’s ability to overcome those early hurdles. “And she’s done well. Of course, it hasn’t been perfect, but it never is. Nobody can be perfect…But when you’re talking about somebody coming in completely unprepared, and in this amount of time, being able to get the fan support, and then beyond that she’s already been Intercontinental Champion at this point.
