Detroit Lions Linebacker Jack Campbell Hospitalized After On-Field Collision
Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell was hospitalized with a suspected neck injury after an on-field collision during a game, leaving players and staff visibly shaken, bild.de reported. The 26-year-old remained motionless on the turf following an accidental impact with T.J. Hockenson of the Minnesota Vikings.
Medical staff and an ambulance retrieved Campbell directly from the field. According to bild.de, Dan Campbell gathered the entire team in the locker room for a team prayer following the incident.
Jack Campbell is resting and will remain in a local hospital tonight, for continued evaluation and monitoring. The team will provide further updates as we have them.
Hospital Observation and Team Response
The Detroit Lions released a brief statement regarding his immediate status.
“Jack Campbell ruht sich aus und wird heute Abend in einem örtlichen Krankenhaus bleiben, damit er weiter beobachtet und untersucht wird. Das Team wird weitergehende Informationen zur Verfügung stellen, sobald es sie gibt,” the franchise announced.
Jared Goff addressed the emotional weight of the situation after the final whistle.
Goff noted that what happened to Jack was definitely frightening and said it brought things back into perspective for a moment that he is a husband and a father.
Family Presence and Tunnel Incident Details
According to Sports Illustrated reporting cited by bild.de, Campbell’s wife, Megan, and their baby, Cooper James, were in attendance at Ford Field and witnessed the collision.
Al Karsten, a reporter for Pride of Detroit, detailed the stadium logistics on X, noting that the venue’s tunnel entrance was elevated to clear a path for the ambulance. Megan Campbell and her child were brought down onto the field to accompany the player to the hospital, an event Karsten described as the scariest moment he had witnessed at the stadium.
The couple first met as student-athletes at the University of Iowa, where Campbell played football and Megan played basketball before she transferred to Drake University. They became engaged by a lake in July 2023, married in June 2024, and welcomed their son shortly before Campbell signed a four-year contract extension with the Lions worth $81 million.
