LAKELAND – The Lakeland Christian boys soccer team defied expectations this season, culminating in a 2-1 victory over Santa Fe Catholic Monday night to claim the Class 2A, District 9 championship.

Entering the season, head coach Grandy Streets anticipated a rebuilding year following key losses due to graduation and player transfers, including the departure of their leading scorer to George Jenkins High School. Many predicted a shift in district dominance.

Though, Lakeland Christian exceeded those projections, securing more wins than Streets initially forecast. The Vikings established a two-goal advantage in the championship game and successfully defended their led against a persistent Santa Fe Catholic squad.
