RTVE to Broadcast laliga match Weekly on Free-to-Air Television
Spanish public service broadcaster RTVE has secured the rights to broadcast one LaLiga match per week, beginning with the 2024-25 season and continuing through 2025-26.This marks a significant return for LaLiga to public service television in Spain,a situation not seen consistently as the 1989-90 season, with a brief return during the 2015-16 campaign.
The agreement comes as DAZN, the current primary rights holder for LaLiga through 2032, looks to establish a long-term free-to-air solution for its weekly match offering beyond the 2025-26 season. DAZN renewed its LaLiga rights package in November with a fee increase.
This deal significantly expands RTVE’s sports portfolio. The broadcaster already holds rights to the Copa del Rey, offering live and exclusive coverage of up to 116 matches annually through the 2026-27 season. RTVE will also broadcast the 2026 FIFA World Cup, for which Spain is a strong contender, and the UEFA European Championships in 2028.
RTVE has reportedly invested over €360 million in securing major sports rights in recent years. Beyond football, this includes coverage of the 2028 and 2032 Olympic Games, the 2026 and 2030 Winter Olympics, cycling’s Tour de france through 2030, and, most recently, the all-electric Formula E series.
