LaMelo Ball Involved in Car Crash in Charlotte

Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball was involved in a car accident Wednesday afternoon in Uptown Charlotte. The incident occurred when his custom 2022 Hummer struck a gray Kia sedan, according to reports and online video of the event. USA Today and Fadeaway World both reported on the incident.

Details of the Accident

The collision took place at the intersection of Trade and Tryon streets. Ball was driving west on Trade Street and attempted a left turn onto Tryon Street when his vehicle collided with the Kia, which was traveling east on Trade Street. WSOC-TV published footage of the wreck.

Witnesses reported seeing Ball exit the Hummer and enter a Lamborghini after the crash. The Hummer sustained significant damage, including losing a front wheel. Fadeaway World noted the vehicle was a custom GMC Hummer EV Edition 1.

Injuries and Police Response

One person sustained minor injuries in the accident. Reports indicate that both drivers were able to exit their vehicles immediately following the collision.

As of February 19, 2026, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department had not confirmed who was involved in the crash. The Athletic reported this.

Previous Incidents

This is not the first time Ball has been involved in a car-related incident. In May 2024, he was sued after allegedly running over a boy’s foot while leaving Spectrum Center after a fan event. The Athletic detailed that case, which is still in litigation and occurred less than a mile from the site of Wednesday’s crash.
