FT Island’s Lee Hong-ki Achieves Significant Weight Loss for Musical Role

Lee Hong-ki, the frontman of the South Korean band FT Island, reportedly lost 14 kg (approximately 31 pounds) while preparing for his role in the musical ‘Sugar.’ The weight loss has garnered attention for his visibly slimmer appearance.

Weight Loss Journey and Physical Transformation

A video showcasing Lee Hong-ki’s weight loss has been circulating, highlighting his more defined jawline and overall slimmer physique. He revealed to fans that he lost a total of 14 kg in preparation for the musical. Lee Hong-ki expressed surprise at the extent of his transformation, noting he hadn’t realized how much unnecessary food he had been consuming previously.

Role in ‘Sugar’ and Physical Benefits

The weight loss was specifically undertaken for his portrayal of Jo (Josephine) in the musical ‘Sugar,’ a comedic adaptation of the film ‘Some Like It Hot’ set during the Prohibition era in 1929. Lee Hong-ki received positive feedback for his three-dimensional portrayal of the character, showcasing a wide range of emotions and stable vocal performance. He also impressed audiences with his performance in cross-dressing, and makeup.

Beyond the aesthetic changes, Lee Hong-ki reported feeling physically lighter and more refreshed after losing weight. He noted an improvement in his physical capabilities, stating that pull-ups, which were previously difficult, had become easier to perform. Still, he clarified that he does not plan to lose any further weight and intends to maintain his current physique.

Future Activities

Lee Hong-ki concluded his run in ‘Sugar’ with the final performance on February 22nd at the KEPCO Arts Center in Seoul. He is scheduled to hold his first domestic solo fan meeting, ‘Oggijonggi,’ on March 7th. FT Island is planning a fan meeting, ‘Woodang Tangtang FT Office,’ their first in approximately 10 years.
