Lee Kang-in: Atlético Madrid Pursuit and Potential PSG Exit

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Lee Kang-in is attracting interest from Atlético Madrid as the Spanish club seeks a replacement for Antoine Griezmann, who is reportedly finalizing a move to Orlando City in Major League Soccer (MLS). The potential transfer could see the South Korean international return to Spain, where he previously played for Valencia and Mallorca.

Griezmann’s Departure Fuels Atlético’s Interest

According to reports from Spanish outlet As, Antoine Griezmann is set to complete his transfer to Orlando City after the current season concludes. This move has prompted Atlético Madrid to identify potential replacements, with Lee Kang-in emerging as a prime target. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano also reported on Griezmann’s agreement to join Orlando City on March 23rd.

Atlético’s Previous Interest and Mateu Alemany’s Advocacy

Atlético Madrid previously expressed interest in Lee Kang-in during the winter transfer window, but a deal failed to materialize. However, Atlético’s director of men’s professional football, Mateu Alemany, remains a strong admirer of the 25-year-old South Korean player and is expected to make a renewed effort to secure his services during the summer transfer window. Alemany reportedly views Lee Kang-in as the “ideal replacement” for Griezmann, citing his versatility and technical ability.

Lee Kang-in’s Career Trajectory

Lee Kang-in began his European career with Valencia, progressing through their youth academy and making his professional debut at the age of 17 in 2018. He later joined Mallorca in 2021, where he established himself as a prominent dribbler in European football. In July 2023, he transferred to Paris Saint-Germain, where he currently plays as an attacking midfielder or winger. As of March 21, 2026, Lee Kang-in has made 74 appearances for PSG, scoring 11 goals.

PSG Contract and Potential Exit

Lee Kang-in is under contract with Paris Saint-Germain until June 2028. With two years remaining on his contract after the current season, both PSG and Lee Kang-in will demand to consider a contract renewal or a potential transfer. If Lee Kang-in seeks more consistent playing time, a move away from PSG could be a viable option.

Lee Kang-in’s International Career

Lee Kang-in also represents the South Korea national team, having earned 44 caps and scored 11 goals as of November 18, 2025. He was a key player in South Korea’s run to the final of the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup, where he won the Golden Ball award.
