Solace Café: Limerick’s Latest Out-of-Hours Mental Health Support Service

A new service offering free, confidential, out-of-hours mental health support has opened in Limerick City. Solace Café, a partnership between HSE Mid-West and Limerick Mental Health Association (LMHA), provides a safe space for adults experiencing emotional distress, anxiety, or feeling overwhelmed.

What is Solace Café?

Solace Café is a non-clinical mental health service designed to offer support when other resources are limited. It aims to provide early intervention and prevent crises by offering an alternative to emergency department visits. The service is available to adults aged 18 and over in Limerick City.

Hours and Location

Currently operating in a pilot phase, Solace Café is open Thursdays through Sundays from 6:00 PM to midnight. It is located at Limerick Mental Health Association (LMHA) headquarters at Sarsfield Bridge, in the former premises of the Pier One Hotel. HSE Mid West announced the opening in November 2025.

How to Access Support

One-hour support sessions are available by appointment and can be booked through the following methods:

What to Expect During a Session

Sessions are staffed by trained support workers and peer connectors, providing a confidential and welcoming environment. Individuals accessing the service can learn coping strategies and receive support, including one-to-one sessions, peer support, psychosocial support, and recovery support. Signposting to other relevant local services is too available. iLoveLimerick reports that the café provides a “warm, friendly place” for those struggling.

Impact and Expansion

Since its soft launch before Christmas, Solace Café has already supported over 120 people. Minister of State Mary Butler announced funding for three additional Solace Cafés to be established nationally as part of the HSE Crisis Resolution Services model. The Limerick Post highlighted the service as a new place for people needing out-of-hours mental health support.
