LTA Investigates Inaccurate Bus Timings on Transport Apps and Displays
Singapore – The Land Transport authority (LTA) announced on Wednesday, January 21st, that it is indeed currently investigating technical issues leading to inaccurate bus timings displayed on various transport applications and electronic information displays at bus stops and interchanges.Despite the inaccuracies, the LTA assures commuters that bus services are operating at their usual frequencies and are not affected.
The issue, first detected on January 10th, has progressively worsened throughout the week, resulting in discrepancies between predicted and actual bus arrival times. This impacts the Expected Time of Arrival (ETA) system, which relies on data transmitted from equipment installed on buses to provide real-time arrival estimates.
These estimates are typically disseminated through multiple commuter channels, including electronic displays at bus stops and interchanges, the official MyTransport.SG app, and a range of third-party applications that utilize LTA’s DataMall. The inaccuracies have led to commuters experiencing misleading wait time information.
Preliminary investigations suggest a technical fault within the on-board systems of a subset of buses is hindering the accurate transmission of bus arrival timing data.LTA engineers, alongside contractors responsible for the ETA system, are collaborating with bus operators to resolve the issue swiftly.
The LTA has stated it’s commitment to restoring the accuracy of the bus timing information and will provide further updates as the examination progresses. Commuters seeking more information are encouraged to refer to the MyTransport.SG app and the LTA website for the latest developments.
