Seven Indicted in Quentin Deranque Homicide, Including Aide to French Lawmaker

Lyon, France – Seven individuals have been formally indicted in connection with the death of Quentin Deranque, a young activist, following a violent attack in Lyon on February 12, 2026. The indictments, handed down on Thursday evening, include charges of intentional homicide, complicity in intentional homicide, aggravated violence and criminal conspiracy, according to a press conference held by Lyon prosecutor Thierry Dran.

Details of the Indictments

Six of the suspects face charges of “voluntary homicide,” while Jacques-Elie Favrot, an aide to Raphaël Arnault, a member of parliament for La France Insoumise (LFI), has been indicted for “complicity in voluntary homicide by instigation.” All seven, aged between 20 and 26, have been placed under a committal warrant and are currently in detention.

Investigation Ongoing

The suspects are accused of directly participating in the assault that led to Deranque’s death. He was reportedly attacked by punches and kicks while on the ground in the 7th district of Lyon. Prosecutor Dran noted that the roles of each individual are still being established and that authorities are continuing to identify additional individuals involved. “To date, there remain several people to be identified,” Dran stated during the press conference according to Le Monde.

Political Connections

The involvement of Jacques-Elie Favrot, Raphaël Arnault’s assistant, has drawn significant attention. Favrot’s lawyer, Bertrand Sayn, stated that the indictment for complicity indicates that Favrot “did not deliver direct blows capable of causing death” as reported by Le Monde. Another individual close to Arnault, Adrian B., 25, who previously worked on the MP’s team, is also among those indicted for homicide and has been placed in detention .
