Lyric Opera of Kansas City Announces 2026-2027 Season

Lyric Opera of Kansas City has unveiled its 2026-2027 season, the company’s 70th, featuring four mainstage productions at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. The season will include Giacomo Puccini’s La bohème, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, Arthur Sullivan and W.S. Gilbert’s The Pirates of Penzance and Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida.

Season Highlights

La bohème

Launching the season, Puccini’s La bohème is a timeless portrayal of bohemian life in Paris. Known for soaring melodies like “Musetta’s Waltz” and “O soave fanciulla,” the opera explores themes of friendship and romance among impoverished artists. Performances are scheduled for September 19, 25, and 27, 2026. The opera will be sung in Italian with English subtitles. Tickets and information are available online.

The Marriage of Figaro

Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, often hailed as a gold standard in opera, will continue the season. This masterful perform blends sparkling wit with insights into love, aging, and forgiveness. Performances are set for November 7, 13, and 15, 2026.

The Pirates of Penzance

In 2027, Lyric Opera will present Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic treasure, The Pirates of Penzance. This lighthearted operetta is known for its witty wordplay and memorable tunes like “The Very Model of a Modern Major-General.” Performances are scheduled for February 20, 26, and 28, 2027.

Aida

The season will culminate with a new production of Verdi’s Aida, a grand spectacle set in ancient Egypt. This production will feature new sets built in Kansas City and explores themes of passion, duty, and forbidden romance. Performances are planned for April 24, 30, and May 2, 2027.
