Tennessee State Women’s Tennis Faces Middle Tennessee in Mid-Week Matchup

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Tennessee State University women’s tennis team continued its road stretch Monday afternoon, falling 6-1 to Western Kentucky University at the Warren County Tennis Facility.

Despite the final score, the Tigers showed resilience throughout the match, highlighted by a strong singles performance from Victoria Cooksey.

Doubles Play

TSU opened the afternoon with an impressive showing at No. 1 doubles. The duo of Claudia Murdasanu and Victoria Cooksey powered past WKU’s Emily Schut and Andra Sirbu, 6-1, giving the Tigers early momentum in the doubles rotation.

WKU claimed the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots to grab a 1-0 lead.

Singles Competition

Cooksey delivered the Tigers’ lone point of the day in a thrilling fashion at No. 2 singles. After taking the first set 6-4, dropping the second 3-6, she responded in the deciding super tiebreak to secure a 10-7 victory and earn TSU’s point.

Natalie Walsh also battled at No. 3 singles, forcing a decisive third-set tiebreak after splitting the first two sets, but ultimately fell 10-6 in the final frame.

The Hilltoppers secured straight-set wins at the No. 1, No. 4 and No. 6 positions, while the No. 5 match ended in opponent retirement.

With the result, Tennessee State moves to 0-6 on the season.
