Bulgarian Foundation Reports Progress and Challenges in Case of Malina, Child Removed from Unsafe Home Environment

The story of Malina, an 11-year-old girl from Knezha, Bulgaria, gained public attention after being featured on the show “New Home Brigade.” While a home renovation provided a brighter living space, underlying family issues led to Malina’s removal from her mother’s care, according to the “Lend a Hand” foundation.

A Tricky Childhood and Initial Support

Malina experienced a significant personal tragedy with the loss of her father. She reportedly spent hours with his body before the situation was discovered, leaving her deeply traumatized. The family also faced extreme poverty, lacking basic amenities such as a bathroom and running water, forcing Malina to bathe outdoors.

The “Lend a Hand” foundation initially intervened, working for months to support Malina and her mother. Recognizing the extent of the need, they then collaborated with the “New Home Brigade” team to renovate the family’s home. The renovation resulted in a new nursery with modern furnishings and a safe environment, fulfilling Malina’s dream of a comfortable home.

Deeper Issues Emerge and Child Safety Concerns

Despite the improved living conditions, the “Lend a Hand” foundation identified deeper problems within the family. A series of concerning incidents related to the mother’s behavior raised serious questions about Malina’s safety, both physically and mentally. The foundation sought assistance from the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy and the State Agency for Child Protection.

Malina Now in a Safe Environment

As of today, the “Lend a Hand” foundation reports that Malina is now in a safe and caring environment. “She is fine – happy, cared for and surrounded by love,” the organization stated.
