A 20-year-old man was shot dead in broad daylight on the Costa del Sol in Spain, managing to crawl to a local supermarket for help before succumbing to his injuries, according to reports published by The Sun. The victim, whose identity has not been publicly released, was sitting on a bench in the Barcenillas area of Málaga at approximately 11:40 a.m. when the attack occurred.

Daylight Attack in Málaga Leaves Victim Fatally Wounded

According to eyewitness accounts gathered by The Sun, the victim was shot multiple times in the leg and back while seated in a central square in Barcenillas. After being struck, the 20-year-old dragged himself down a flight of stairs and into a nearby supermarket to seek refuge.

Witnesses inside the store heard him say, “They are killing me, they have shot me twice,” as customers rushed to provide first aid. Shoppers later reported that the victim stated he did not know his attackers and could not explain why he had been targeted. Emergency services transported him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead several hours later.

Police Arrest Three Suspects in Organised Crime Sweep

Spanish law enforcement agencies, specifically the Drugs and Organised Crime Unit (Udyco) and the Special Response Group for Organised Crime (Greco), took over the homicide investigation and apprehended three suspects in connection with the shooting, as reported by The Sun.

Investigators tracked the first suspect to the nearby Costa del Sol resort town of Fuengirola. Following a subsequent tip-off, police raided a residential property in Málaga to arrest a second suspect. A third suspect was identified after officers determined he had deliberately altered his clothing and appearance following the attack. Police located and arrested him on a public street in Fuengirola.

Rising Gun Violence and Gang Activity on the Coast

Spanish authorities believe the shooting was a targeted assassination tied to an ongoing feud between rival drug trafficking factions operating along the southern coast. The region has experienced a noticeable surge in violent crime and daylight firearm incidents.

This homicide follows several recent violent episodes in the area, including the fatal shooting of a 33-year-old man in Marbella earlier in the month, where the victim was found with two gunshot wounds to the abdomen, and the stabbing of a 16-year-old just meters away from the Barcenillas crime scene. National Police investigations into the wider network of regional gang violence remain ongoing.
