Man, 81, Dies in Crash Near Georgetown
April 25, 2026 – Delaware State Police are continuing their investigation into a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred on April 17 near Georgetown, resulting in the death of an 81-year-old man.
According to officials, Michael Jeffra, 81, of Georgetown, was traveling southbound on Dupont Boulevard north of McColley’s Chapel Road at approximately noon when his vehicle gradually departed the west edge of the roadway. The vehicle struck a mailbox, a road sign, and a large embankment before catching fire.
Bystanders pulled Jeffra from the burning SUV and initiated lifesaving efforts. He was initially believed to have experienced a medical emergency prior to the crash and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.
Police have confirmed that Jeffra’s death resulted from injuries sustained in the collision, not from any pre-existing medical condition. Dupont Boulevard was closed for approximately two hours while investigators processed the scene and cleared debris.
