Seattle Man Pleads Guilty too Murder in Auburn Shooting

A Seattle man has pleaded guilty to murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman in Auburn in 2023 and faces up to 26 years in prison.

on Dec.11,Marketha McCoy,24,pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.The charge stems from a June 28, 2023, incident where McCoy is accused of fatally shooting Kayshia B. Hardiman,37.

With one adult felony and six juvenile felonies on his record, McCoy has an offender score of seven, placing his potential sentence between 216 and 316 months (18 to 26 years). As part of a plea agreement,McCoy has agreed to request a minimum confinement of 180 months (15 years). Additionally, a mandatory firearm enhancement will not be added to his sentence as part of the agreement and amended information in the second-degree murder charge.

Prosecutor don Raz has recommended a 240-month sentence (20 years). McCoyS sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 23.

Details of the case

According to court documents, Auburn officers responded to reports of an illegal discharge near the Green Tree Condos at approximately 4:15 a.m. on June 28, 2023. Callers reported hearing gunshots and a woman screaming, “He shot me.” Another caller reported hearing an argument before the shots were fired.

Upon arrival, officers found Hardiman on the ground. Despite life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead at 4:29 a.m. Officers discovered liquor, drug paraphernalia, .40 caliber shell casings, a purse, and a wallet near Hardiman.she was found partially unclothed.

A witness provided officers with a note identifying McCoy as having been seen walking with Hardiman before the shots were fired. The witness stated that after the gunshots, McCoy was seen running and told the witness, “She is crazy, she is losing it, don’t listen to her,” before fleeing toward an apartment unit.

Investigators reviewed traffic camera footage and security camera footage from the nearby Big Nation Station gas station, which captured the events surrounding Hardiman’s death.

Officers identified McCoy as the man seen walking with Hardiman.
