Maryland communities mark 25 years since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks with a comprehensive series of memorial services, endurance events, candlelight vigils, and historical presentations, according to local reports from WBFF and WBAL-TV. The multi-day tributes honor the 2,977 victims killed in the attacks, the first responders who rushed to help, and military service members deployed in the global war on terrorism.

Parkville Path of Honor and Field of Honor Displays

Volunteers in Parkville began placing American flags along Putty Hill Avenue as part of the 15th annual Path of Honor and Field of Honor displays, according to WBFF. The display features 2,977 American flags representing each person killed on 9/11, alongside a Field of Honor recognizing 158 Marylanders killed in the global war on terrorism. The flags are positioned near the Parkville Fire House, the Parkville Police Station, and along Putty Hill Avenue between Old Harford and Harford roads through September 14, coordinated by the Hope and Peace Foundation.

Baltimore World Trade Center Sundial and Memorial Stair Climbs

The Baltimore World Trade Center serves as an architectural sundial each September 11, with sunlight aligning with inscriptions marking the chronological timeline of the attacks, according to WBAL-TV. Additionally, ahead of the anniversary, M&T Bank Stadium hosted the Baltimore 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on September 5. Participants wearing turnout gear, station gear or workout gear climbed 110 flights of stairs—matching the number of the World Trade Center towers—while carrying photographs of fallen firefighters to honor their sacrifices.
