An inmate who escaped custody from a hospital in McClain County on Friday morning was arrested in Pauls Valley after crashing a stolen vehicle and carjacking a passerby, authorities said.
Michael Dustin Holsey, 22, was taken into custody at a gas station in Pauls Valley after officers located the vehicle he was driving and held him until backup arrived, according to the McClain County Sheriff’s Office.
What happened
The McClain County Sheriff said the incident began at a hospital in McClain County during a custody change.
Authorities said Holsey got into a vehicle and drove onto the interstate heading toward Garvin County.
While driving on the interstate, investigators said Holsey hydroplaned and crashed the vehicle.
After the crash, officers said a passerby stopped to help. Authorities said Holsey then carjacked that driver and left the person along the interstate before continuing south.
Holsey later drove into a gas station in Pauls Valley, where officers located the vehicle and detained him until additional deputies arrived. He was then placed under arrest.
No injuries have been reported.
Background
Holsey had been receiving treatment at the hospital for injuries from an altercation, according to authorities.
Deputies had warned the public that he should be considered dangerous.
The McClain County Sheriff’s Office said Holsey has outstanding charges that include:
- First-degree burglary
- Escape from a penal institution
- Larceny of a motor vehicle
