Michael Douglas Recalls Catherine Zeta-Jones Giving Him an Ultimatum Over Dating Other Women
If we are doing this, you need to clean your act up,
Catherine Zeta-Jones told Michael Douglas when the couple first started courting, according to an interview on “The Graham Norton Show.” Douglas, 82, revealed that he was recently divorced from his first wife, Diandra Luker, and maintaining non-monogamous relationships with five different women in separate cities when he met Zeta-Jones, 57, at the Deauville American Film Festival in France.
Calls to Five Women Ended Relationships for the Romance
Following the demand from the “Wednesday” star, Douglas stated on the British talk show that he had to call five women to break things off.
Douglas explained in his new memoir, “One Helluva Ride,” that none of those five romantic partners had asked for a commitment, but Zeta-Jones refused to proceed if he continued seeing others. Douglas wrote in his book that he dialed each woman the same day to end the relationships, and that they all took the news well. He also admitted on the broadcast that he felt surprised by how many partners he was juggling at the time, noting that it was easy to get comfortable with co-stars.

Wedding at the Plaza Hotel Followed Two Years Later
Just two years after their initial meeting, Douglas and Zeta-Jones married in a ceremony at the Plaza Hotel in New York City on November 18, 2000. The couple shares two children, son Dylan, 26, and daughter Carys, 23. Douglas also has a 47-year-old son, Cameron, from his first marriage to Luker. Despite briefly separating in 2013 during Douglas’s tongue cancer battle and Zeta-Jones’s treatment for bipolar disorder, the couple reconciled. In his memoir, Douglas wrote that his wife is his best friend and life partner, adding that he could never lose her.
Memoir Reading Status Stalls at Night
While Douglas confirmed to Page Six earlier this month that Zeta-Jones was reading his new memoir, the actress offered a different update on the “Today” show on October 8. Zeta-Jones stated that she was too busy and tired at night to read about her husband, telling the morning show that she has no intention of reading about him when she rests. Douglas wrote in his memoir that he knew Zeta-Jones was “the one” the moment he saw her on a movie screen, describing her as possessing a magic that went beyond beauty.
