Michael Hayes Clarifies Comments on Chelsea Green’s WWE Potential

Michael Hayes, a WWE producer, has responded to the controversy surrounding his remarks about Chelsea Green featured in the second season of the Netflix docu-series, WWE: Unreal. Hayes addressed concerns that the show misrepresented his perspective on Green’s potential within the company.

Edited Portrayal on WWE: Unreal

In WWE: Unreal, Hayes was depicted as questioning Green’s ability to become a top-tier performer, suggesting her role was primarily to elevate other stars. However, Hayes claims the show omitted crucial context, specifically his initial praise for Green’s talent. He stated he told Netflix officials that he believes “Chelsea is as decent, as talented, and as entertaining as anyone we have,” but this statement was not included in the final cut.

“If you’re going to craft me a heel, the best way to do it is to say she’s not good enough. And that’s not really what I was saying,” Hayes explained during an appearance on the Six Feet Under with The Undertaker podcast.

Current Role and Potential for Change

Despite the editing, Hayes maintained his assessment of Green’s current position on the roster. He emphasized that her role is currently focused on supporting other talents, but acknowledged that WWE is open to changing course if a performer gains significant fan support. He drew parallels to the career trajectories of Daniel Bryan and Kofi Kingston, noting the company’s willingness to adapt to audience reactions.

“I don’t regret what I said because her role at the time I said that, and even right now, is not the top role. It is to help make other people… If Chelsea caught fire because of this following and the support that she has, we’d go with that in a heartbeat,” Hayes added.

The Undertaker’s Endorsement

During the same podcast appearance, The Undertaker offered his support for Green, stating she possesses a rare “it” factor. He believes that with a more assertive attitude, she could become a major player in WWE.

“I think she, with just a hair more mean streak, I think she can be a top player. She has that thing, that ‘it’ thing. And I just think there’s a lot of great things coming for that young lady. I’m a big fan of hers. There’s certain organizations around that know how to use her. You got to go south of the border, you’ve got to go south of the border,” The Undertaker noted.

Green’s Injury and Current Status

Chelsea Green is currently recovering from a chipped ankle sustained during an Elimination Chamber qualifying match on SmackDown. This injury led to her and partner Ethan Page vacating the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championships, which they had held since November 2025. Despite the injury and the controversy surrounding the Unreal series, Green remains a consistent presence on WWE programming.
