Enniskillen Wreath Laying Marks Remembrance Sunday
Taoiseach Micheál Martin laid a laurel wreath at the war memorial in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh, during Remembrance Sunday services. rte.ie reported that the Taoiseach accompanied Northern Ireland Secretary Chris Bryant, who laid a poppy wreath on behalf of the UK Government.
Hundreds gathered at the Co Fermanagh town to pay respects at the site of a 1987 IRA bomb attack. The no-warning blast on November 8, 1987, killed 11 people minutes before a Remembrance service started, while a 12th victim died 13 years later without waking from a coma, according to The Irish Times.

Belfast Ceremony Proceeds Without First Minister

a Sinn Féin spokesperson said, as reported by The Irish Times.
Dublin National Service Honors War Dead
President Catherine Connolly is to lay a wreath at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin during the National Service of Remembrance. rte.ie reported this will mark her first time doing so since taking office. Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald is also expected to attend the Dublin service.
Historical Tradition Continues in Fermanagh
Mr Martin’s participation continued a precedent established in 2012. rte.ie reported that former taoiseach Enda Kenny began the tradition of attending the Enniskillen commemoration.

The 2012 initiative was seen as symbolic of greater recognition afforded in the State to Irishmen who fought and died serving in the British Army in the First World War, according to The Irish Times. In 2024, then-taoiseach Simon Harris did not attend because no representative from the Northern Ireland Executive was present.
