Southwest Michigan Communities Rally After Deadly Tornadoes

Communities across southwest Michigan are uniting to support residents impacted by a series of tornadoes that struck on Friday, March 6, 2026. The storms caused significant damage in Cass, St. Joseph, and Branch counties, resulting in at least four fatalities and over a dozen injuries.

Tornado Impacts and Damage Assessments

Preliminary assessments indicate that tornadoes touched down in Edwardsburg, Three Rivers, and Union City, creating a 50-mile path of destruction MSN. The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-1 tornado in Edwardsburg, Michigan (Cass County) with maximum winds of 95 mph National Weather Service.

The storms resulted in the tragic loss of life. Silas Anderson, a 12-year-old boy, died near Edwardsburg Detroit Free Press. Penni Jo Guthrie, 65, died in Union City Detroit Free Press. Community Response and Relief Efforts

In the wake of the disaster, local organizations and volunteers have mobilized to provide assistance to those affected.
