Jon Gosselin Calls Twin Daughters Strangers After Years of Estrangement
Jon Gosselin stated that he would not recognize his 26-year-old twin daughters, Madelyn and Cara, if he passed them on the street. The former reality television star made the admission during a Tuesday appearance on the Legally Goff Podcast, reflecting on a prolonged estrangement from his eldest children,, Page Six reported. The “Jon & Kate Plus 8” alum told podcast host Brooke Goff that he has not spoken to or heard the twins’ voices since they were 13 years old. He described the situation as an alienation characterized by total silence, noting that he was cut out of their lives abruptly after years of being an active, everyday parent.
Jon Gosselin Describes Missing Decades of Daughters Lives
During the podcast interview, Gosselin detailed the emotional toll of missing a decade and a half of his daughters’ lives. He listed graduations and proms that he did not attend, admitting he knows nothing about their current lives, including whether they drive, have romantic partners, or what their favorite colors are.
“Walking around for 13 years not knowing has pretty much eaten my soul away,” Gosselin said on the podcast. He added that he possesses photographs of Madelyn and Cara, but still believes he could not pick them out in a crowd because so much time has passed.
Jon Gosselin Maintains Contact with Only Two Sextuplets
Beyond his relationship with the twins, Gosselin remains estranged from four of his 22-year-old sextuplets: Leah, Alexis, Aaden, and Joel. He maintains relationships with son Collin and daughter Hannah, though Hannah’s living arrangements and family ties have shifted.
Entertainment Now reported that Hannah released a statement in October indicating she had not lived with her father in over a year and had stepped back from the family situation. However, Collin disputed that narrative during an appearance on The View, claiming he has seen Hannah frequently at their home and alleging that their mother, Kate Gosselin, may be leveraging finances or relationships. Collin recently published a memoir titled In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, in which he accused his mother of past abuse—allegations that Kate Gosselin has denied.
Jon Blames Television Narrative for Estrangement from Children
Jon Gosselin and Kate Gosselin divorced in 2009, resulting in the former nurse receiving primary physical custody of all eight children. By 2018, Jon secured custody of Hannah and Collin, following Collin spending nearly two years in a behavioral health institution. The 49-year-old DJ expressed that he does not blame his children, believing they live in fear and follow the narrative promoted by TLC that he is a bad person who does not want to see them. He stated that he believes Kate previously told him and Collin that they did not want to see each other, and he assumes she told Madelyn and Cara the same thing.
I just want some kind of response. Just text me or message me. At least I’ll know.” He called the situation upsetting and gut-wrenching, and noted he is similarly estranged from four of his sextuplets, which he also described as upsetting and gut-wrenching.
Last month, Jon shared a plea via Entertainment Tonight, telling his estranged children that he still loves them, hoping they reach out one day, and asking them to read their brother’s book to understand things better while reminding them they are adults now. Concurrently, while promoting his memoir, Collin issued a direct message to his estranged siblings, telling Page Six in an exclusive interview, "I love them very much, and I want them to know that what was done to us as children is not normal." Regarding Hannah's involvement, Collin claimed she is caught in the middle and that their mother is using either finances or Hannah's relationship with her siblings to pressure her.”
