Microsoft Corporation Reports $92.3 Billion Revenue Driven by Cloud and AI Demand

Microsoft Corporation generated $92.3 billion in revenue for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, marking a 19 percent increase compared to the same period in the previous year, according to financial results reported by heise.de. Operating income rose 21 percent to $45.9 billion, while net income grew 32 percent to $36.6 billion. The growth was led by cloud services and increased customer spending on artificial intelligence, offsetting declines in the company’s gaming and Windows divisions.

Cloud and Artificial Intelligence Revenue Accelerate Growth

Microsoft Cloud revenue reached $63.9 billion, representing a 30 percent increase year-over-year. Financial Chief Amy Hood stated in the company’s announcement that results exceeded expectations across revenue, operating income, and earnings per share.

The newly designated “Agents and Infrastructure” segment, which includes Azure and cloud-based services, generated $76.8 billion in revenue, up 25 percent from the prior year. Azure alone grew by 48 percent. Commercial and consumer revenues for cloud-based Office products also expanded, growing 18 percent and 17 percent respectively.

Adoption of the Microsoft 365 Copilot AI assistant increased by 50 percent compared to the previous quarter, according to Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella during a call with analysts. Hood noted that the Microsoft 365 E7 package, launched earlier this year and expanded with Anthropic’s Claude technology, now has millions of users.

Hardware and Gaming Divisions Contract

The “Devices and Consumers” segment generated $15.5 billion in revenue, a 3 percent decrease from the previous year. Within this division, Xbox gaming revenue declined by 2 percent, and the Windows division—covering both licenses and hardware—dropped 22 percent. Heise.de reported that the Windows decline stemmed from a drop in PC market demand driven by higher prices. Search and advertising revenue grew by 12 percent within the same segment.

Financial Outlook and Market Reaction

Microsoft projected revenue between $96 billion and $97.1 billion for the current quarter, representing an estimated 19 percent growth year-over-year. Market observers had previously anticipated $95.6 billion. Following the earnings release, Microsoft’s stock price rose by nearly 4 percent in after-hours trading.
