Netflix revealed new anime projects at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026, including the adaptation of Yasuda Koushi’s manga “Fool Night” and a new series based on Eiichiro Oda’s “One Piece,” according to a statement from the streaming platform.
Netflix Announces ‘Fool Night’ Anime Adaptation for 2026
The anime adaptation of Yasuda Koushi’s “Fool Night,” which ranked on “This Manga is Amazing! 2023” and won the Daruma Award for Best Suspense at Japan Expo 2023, will debut on Netflix in 2026, the company announced. The series, set in a dystopian future where humanity relies on a plant-based oxygen system called “Henshou,” features a cast including Uchida Takuma as Shigeyasu Toshirou and Sugawara Mina as Momoi Yomiko.
Produced by Sunrise and Shaft, the project includes a teaser trailer and visual materials unveiled at the festival. Yasuda Koushi expressed gratitude for the support of fans, stating, “I am deeply grateful to the global readers who have supported ‘Fool Night.’ I hope the anime will reach even more people.”
New ‘Twentieth Century Electrical Catalogue’ Series to Premiere in July 2026
京都アニメーション (Kyoto Animation) announced a new series, “Twentieth Century Electrical Catalogue,” set in an alternate 20th-century Kyoto. The story follows Sakanaka Kihachi, who rediscovers his lost “Electrical Catalogue” with the help of a girl named Momokawa Inko. The series, nominated for the TV Films category at Annecy, will premiere on Netflix on July 5, 2026.
Directed by Ota Minoru, the project features a visual style blending painting-like backgrounds with detailed character animation. A new scene photo released at the festival highlights the emotional depth of the characters.
‘The Ribbon Hero’ to Launch in August 2026
Netflix’s “The Ribbon Hero,” based on the classic manga “Ribbon Knight” by Osamu Tezuka, will debut on August 8, 2026. Directed by Igarashi Yuuki, the film features a voice cast including Saya as Princess Sapphire and Uchida Takuma as Velvet. The soundtrack includes the debut single “Reborn” by the Japan-South Korea collaboration “Girls Archives.”
The film’s second trailer, released at Annecy, introduces the mysterious organization “Mitra” and hints at Sapphire’s role in the conflict. Tezuka’s original work, which has inspired generations of readers, is being reimagined for a global audience.
‘One Piece’ Anime Series to Premiere in February 2027
Netflix’s new “One Piece” series, focusing on the East Blue arc, will launch on February 28, 2027. Produced by WIT STUDIO, the project includes a new episode art for the first episode, titled “ROMANCE DAWN — The Dawn of Adventure.” The series will be directed by Shigeyasu Hiroshi, with a teaser trailer set for release at the “Next on Netflix Animation” panel on June 24, 2024.

Netflix also announced “Bass X Machina,” a series starring Brian Tyre Henry, and “Blue Eye Samurai” season 2, set in the Edo period. The platform continues to expand its anime library, with over 150 million households globally accessing anime content as of 2025, according to internal reports.
