North West Signs with Gamma, Following in Ye’s Footsteps
North West, the 12-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Ye (formerly known as Kanye West), has officially signed with Gamma, the independent music company founded by former Apple executive Larry Jackson [Rolling Stone]. This move places her on the same label as her father, who partnered with Gamma for the release of his upcoming 12th studio album, Bully, set to arrive on March 20 [XXL Mag].
Rising Star Joins Gamma’s Roster
The signing was confirmed by Gamma to Rolling Stone [Rolling Stone]. Details of North West’s deal have not been disclosed, but sources indicate she is currently in the studio recording music for her debut solo album [XXL Mag]. Gamma has quickly become a significant player in the music industry, collaborating with artists such as Mariah Carey, Usher, Sexyy Red, and Snoop Dogg, who moved Death Row under Gamma’s distribution services [Rolling Stone].
“Piercing on My Hand” and a Potential Debut Album
North West recently released her first official single, “Piercing on My Hand,” on February 6th [XXL Mag]. The track, produced by Ye and Will Frenchman, showcases her emerging rap skills and lyrical content focused on a lavish lifestyle [XXL Mag]. She debuted the song live alongside her father in Mexico City in January, performing in front of nearly 40,000 attendees [Rolling Stone]. The performance too included renditions of Ye’s “Only One,” and tracks “Talking” and “Bomb” [Rolling Stone].
The young artist previously featured on Ye and Ty Dolla $ign’s Vultures single “Talking/Once Again” and FKA Twigs’ “Childlike Things” [Rolling Stone].
Ye’s Inspiration
Ye has publicly expressed his daughter’s influence on his own musical creativity. In a now-deleted Instagram post, he shared that North inspired him to rediscover his passion for music, leading him to create beats for her album and his own project, Bully [XXL Mag]. He stated, “This little girl made me love music again,” and detailed his hands-on approach to producing her album [XXL Mag].
The debut album is tentatively titled Elementary School Dropout [XXL Mag]. No official release date has been announced.
