Police Arrest One, Search for Second Suspect After Incident Near Trondheim Synagogue

Trondheim, Norway – Police have arrested one individual and are currently searching for a second person following a police operation near the synagogue in Trondheim on Thursday evening. The incident began with officers observing two people in a vehicle, according to a report from Dagbladet.

Details of the Incident

At approximately 6:30 PM local time, police responded to reports of suspicious activity at the synagogue. One person exited the vehicle and fled on foot, while the other drove off at a high speed, initiating a half-hour car chase. The driver was apprehended after police deployed a tire-deflation device, stopping the vehicle near Orkanger.

Ongoing Search

Authorities are continuing to search for the second individual who fled the scene. Police have indicated they do not have detailed descriptions of the suspect but have an idea of the direction they may have taken. Dagbladet reports that a large area around the synagogue has been cordoned off, with a significant police presence, including armed officers and a drone.

Jon Arne Moen, leader of the Jewish community in Trondheim, confirmed the police operation to VG, stating the situation remains unclear. Police have stated that, as of now, they believe the city center is safe for residents.
