Oracle to Add Quantinuum’s Helios Quantum Computer to OCI

Oracle and Quantinuum announced a multi-year partnership on August 11, 2026, to integrate Quantinuum’s Helios quantum computing system directly into Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). According to the companies, the collaboration brings the trapped-ion quantum computer together with OCI’s high-performance computing and GPU services, allowing enterprise customers, universities, and research institutions to run hybrid quantum-AI workloads under existing cloud governance controls.

Bringing Helios to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

Under the agreement finalized in August 2026, OCI customers gain direct, managed access to Quantinuum’s Helios system without needing to procure or install specialized on-premises hardware, according to joint statements from both companies. Launched commercially in November 2025 by Broomfield, Colorado-based Quantinuum, Helios is a third-generation quantum computer featuring 98 physical qubits. The system has been used in demonstrations involving 48 logical qubits and maintains an average two-qubit gate fidelity of 99.921%, surpassing the benchmark threshold known as “three 9s,” according to Quantinuum specifications.

Oracle plans to roll out a preview of its dedicated OCI quantum service in the coming months. Mahesh Thiagarajan, Executive Vice President of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, stated that the integration aims to provide developers with a secure platform to combine quantum capabilities with current AI and HPC workloads. Dr. Rajeeb Hazra, President and CEO of Quantinuum, noted that embedding Helios inside OCI creates a unified environment designed to accelerate commercial adoption across complex enterprise use cases.

Power Efficiency and Hybrid Workloads

Enterprise adoption of quantum computing is increasingly driven by the need to tackle massive computational limits in materials discovery, drug development, logistics, energy, and financial modeling. Traditional supercomputers demand vast amounts of electrical power to run these simulations, whereas quantum hardware operates at a fraction of that energy cost. Quantinuum reported that a single Helios system draws less than one percent of the energy consumed by leading classical supercomputers.

The architecture of Helios is built specifically for integration with classical AI and high-performance computing environments. Johannes Blaschke, Head of Scientific Computing, GBI at Ellison Institute of Technology, stated that the organization’s roadmap includes exploring classical-quantum hybrid computing to accelerate scientific discovery using these combined systems. The upcoming OCI quantum service will support open-source hybrid-programming frameworks, letting developers transition applications from software simulation directly to hardware execution.
