OU College of Dentistry Provides Free Dental Care to Children Through Annual Kids’ Day
OKLAHOMA CITY – The University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry provided free dental care to 109 children on Saturday, February 28, 2026, during its annual Kids’ Day event. The event, held at the college in Oklahoma City, was supported by the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Foundation. February is Children’s Oral Health Month.
Free Dental Services for Children Ages 4-12
OU College of Dentistry students, under the supervision of faculty and trained dentists, delivered 604 procedures, representing an estimated $57,000 in treatment value. Kids’ Day offers free cleanings, fillings, and crowns to children ages 4 to 12 who may not otherwise have access to dental care. Delta Dental of Oklahoma Foundation is a key supporter of the program.
A 27-Year Tradition of Service
Since its inception 27 years ago, the OU College of Dentistry’s Kids’ Day has provided over $1 million in free dental treatments to Oklahoma children. The program has expanded its reach from the Oklahoma City metro area to serve children statewide.
Importance of Early Oral Health
“Building strong oral health habits at a young age lays the foundation for a lifetime of overall health and wellness,” said OU College of Dentistry Dean Paul Mullasseril, D.D.S., M.S. “We are proud to offer this free program, which meets critical dental needs for children while also giving our dental and dental hygiene students meaningful opportunities to serve. Events like Kids’ Day allow our students to develop their clinical skills and, just as importantly, to understand the profound difference they can make in the lives of their future patients.”
Student Involvement and Passion
Students plan and execute the Kids’ Day event each year. Peyton Earle, a member of the Class of 2026, expressed the students’ dedication to the program. “Through this event, I have seen kids’ oral health positively change, their parents develop into aware of healthy habits, and smiles become bigger and brighter,” said Earle, who aspires to become a pediatric dentist. “Playing a small role in offering this gift is such a joy and something we are all so grateful to be a part of.”
