Palmeiras thrashed Remo 6-0 at Nubank Parque on Thursday in the 34th round of the Brasileirão, with Abel Ferreira substituting Jhon Arias, Gustavo Gómez, and Marlon Freitas in the second half to preserve them for the Copa do Brasil semifinal against Vasco da Gama, UOL reported. Carlos Miguel started in goal for Palmeiras, with Murilo, Gómez, and Barboza in defense; Khellven, Marlon Freitas, Andreas Pereira, and Arthur in midfield; and Arias, Vitor Roque, and Maurício up front. Remo’s starting lineup was Marcelo Rangel; Marcelinho, Marllon, Zé Ivaldo, and Marlon; Zé Welisson, Picco, and Patrick; Jajá, Taliari, and David Braga. The kickoff was at 7:30 PM, with Wilton Pereira Sampaio (GO) officiating.
The goals came from Arias (two), Maurício, Flaco López, Felipe Anderson, Marcelinho (own goal) and Zé Welison. Maurício opened the scoring at the 21-minute mark after a move that began when Remo’s Zé Welison lost possession in midfield, with Vitor Roque and Andreas Pereira involved in the buildup, UOL detailed. Murilo collected the loose ball and accelerated a pass to Andreas Pereira, who laid it off for Maurício; Vitor Roque then deflected the ball with his toe, leaving Arias to dribble the goalkeeper and tap into the empty net. Marcelinho’s own goal and Zé Welison’s consolation strike both came before halftime. After Maurício’s goal, Palmeiras reduced their intensity and managed the result. López and Anderson scored after entering as substitutes in the second period.
Palmeiras Trail Flamengo by Six Points With Four Rounds Left
The win left Palmeiras on 70 points, six behind leaders Flamengo on 76, while Remo occupy 19th place with 29 points, ahead only of already-relegated Chapecoense, according to Notícias ao Minuto Brasil. Ferreira has insisted his squad will field competitive teams across the Brasileirão, Libertadores and Copa do Brasil, though he has managed workloads carefully — Flaco López started seven of the last eight matches but played the full 90 minutes in only one, the outlet noted. Carlos Miguel has started every match since the last FIFA window, the longest uninterrupted run in the squad. The medical staff are monitoring Sosa, recovering from a right thigh injury, and Paulinho, out since a calf blow against Fluminense in the Libertadores semifinal. At this stage, Palmeiras’ 70 points represent their second-best campaign in the points era, behind only the 71 recorded in 2022. “Since I arrived, I have never been in such a good position with my team competing in all competitions,” Ferreira said. “In six years, I have never seen myself at this height and open in everything.”
Free-Flowing Against Remo, Cautious Against Top Rivals
The ease of the victory over Remo contrasted with Palmeiras’ approach against stronger opponents this season, Correio Braziliense observed. In the Libertadores semifinal against Fluminense, Palmeiras adopted a defensive posture to win 2-1 at the Maracanã, then lost 1-0 at home before advancing on penalties. In the Copa do Brasil semifinal first leg against Vasco, Palmeiras took a 1-0 lead through Maurício but then slowed their tempo, allowing Vasco to press and earn a penalty appeal that referee Anderson Daronco denied. That appeal came from Alexander Barboza.
Correio Braziliense questioned why a squad capable of such dominant displays against Remo appears to scale back its ambition when facing more qualified rivals, suggesting that the weight assigned to risk may be limiting the team’s attacking potential. The green-and-white fans at the Arena Crefisa Barueri and Nubank Parque have seen a side capable of playing with lightness, intensity and ambition, and there is no need to keep that approach solely for fixtures where the underdog status seems to license it.

Whether Palmeiras can carry the attacking performance shown against Remo into the decisive match against Vasco in Rio de Janeiro — where a draw suffices after the 1-0 first-leg victory — remains the open question.
