Eyewitness Account Details the Disturbance

Angus Jowitt, a resident of Kainga Ora’s Te Mātāwai supported living development, described hearing a commotion in the complex around 10:40 pm. “It’s not uncommon to have disturbances on Greys Ave on Friday nights, but this one seemed particularly intense,” Jowitt said. He recounted hearing someone yell, “I’ve been stabbed, I’ve been stabbed, call the police,” before witnessing a chaotic scene on a balcony.

Jowitt noted that the complex, which operates 24-7, had staff members rushing to the scene with phones in hand. Neighbors reported seeing a man stabbing another individual on a balcony within one of the complex’s three buildings, according to Jowitt’s account.

Police and Emergency Services Respond

At least a dozen police officers, along with four to five patrol cars and an ambulance, arrived at the scene, Jowitt said. The incident was classified as a “grievous assault” in a police incident log, though no further details about the victim’s condition or the suspect’s identity have been released publicly.
