Phoenix Launches Navigation Program for SNAP Food Benefits
The City of Phoenix Human Services Department launched a new initiative to help residents successfully participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. The program offers guidance on applications, renewals, and work requirements to reduce benefit loss and ensure residents can confidently submit complete information to the Arizona Department of Economic Security.
While the City of Phoenix does not determine eligibility, approve or renew benefits, or administer SNAP, staff help residents understand what the state requires and prepare their submissions. Residents can receive one-on-one help understanding, completing, and submitting applications and renewals, assistance meeting work requirements, and post-application support.
Support From City Leadership
Navigating the SNAP application process can be complicated, and this program ensures Phoenix families have the support they need,
Mayor Kate Gallego said. Far too many people are losing their nutritional safety net because of federal changes, paperwork errors, and red tape. This initiative is a critical lifeline to keep children from going hungry, and families and seniors who are struggling with the high cost of food.
Human Services Director Jacqueline Edwards added that the goal of the initiative is to make the process easier and less stressful for applicants. We want residents to feel confident and prepared every step of the way,
Edwards said.
Appointment Details and Community Clinics
Residents can schedule an appointment online through the City of Phoenix SNAP navigation portal. Walk-ins are also welcome during normal business hours at City of Phoenix Family Services Centers.

The city is hosting ongoing community clinics to assist applicants. An upcoming session is scheduled for Wednesday, October 28, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Emmett McLoughlin C.T.E.C.
Required Documents for Applications and Renewals
To help staff prepare application or renewal packets, residents should bring available documents to their appointments. Necessary items include identity verification, proof of address, income information for all household members, Social Security numbers, and bank statements.
Applicants should also bring documentation related to volunteer hours or federal workforce program participation, along with any notices received from the Arizona Department of Economic Security regarding renewals or updates.
