Delhi Police Register FIR Over Anti-Government Posters Found Inside Airport Express Line Train
Delhi Police registered a first information report against unidentified individuals after two anti-government posters were discovered inside a train on the Delhi Metro’s Airport Express Line, The Times of India reported. The black-and-white A4-sized sheets questioned the government’s performance and listed nine claims regarding changes across the country in recent years. Commuters were invited to join an online group through an embedded QR code displayed on the printouts.
The investigation involves the Delhi Police Special Cell, which joined local authorities to identify who placed the materials and trace the administrators of the linked online group, according to India Today. Authorities initiated the legal action under the terms of the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Public Property Act, 2007, along with the Metro Railway (Operations and Maintenance) Act, 2002, The Statesman noted.
How Delhi Metro Operator Tarun Chaudhary Discovered the Posters on October 20
The matter came to public attention on October 20 when Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) train driver Tarun Chaudhary encountered the notices during a standard check, The Statesman reported. Chaudhary operated a train from New Delhi station to Yashobhoomi station, departing at approximately 6:50 p.m. and arriving around 7:15 p.m.
While checking the train from inside the cabin, Chaudhary noticed two posters pasted on a passenger seat. He removed the material, alerted senior officers and the Operations Control Centre, and received instructions to hand the items over to the station controller at Dwarka Sector 21, who then contacted police.
Phrases Displayed on the Seized A4 Sheets and Online Group Links
The seized printouts featured several slogans in bold type, including “Voting Protest”, “You Can Change Your Own Life”, “Spectrum of Engagement”, “Community Building Reform”, and “Dissatisfied? You Are Not Alone”, according to The Telegraph India. Alongside these slogans, the sheets detailed nine specific claims about national developments in recent years before directing readers to scan a QR code for an online network.
Police secured the physical sheets on Friday and launched forensic and digital checks to determine who printed and distributed them inside the transit system, The Hawk reported.
Broader Political Protests and the Upcoming November 1 Rally
The discovery coincides with heightened political demonstrations in the National Capital regarding electoral administration. Opposition parties, student activists, and the Cockroach Janata Party organized protests demanding a rollback of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, The Statesman reported.
Meanwhile, the INDIA Bloc scheduled a large mobilization against alleged irregularities for November 1 in New Delhi, The Hawk reported. All India Congress Committee General Secretary K.C. Venugopal met with party leaders from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to coordinate participation for the Ramleela Maidan gathering. Police have not publicly established any direct connection between the transit posters and the organizations staging the electoral roll protests.
