Pluribus Season 2 Filming Begins in Albuquerque Nearly a Year After Season 1
Production on the second season of Pluribus began on October 31 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, nearly a year after the first season premiered on Apple TV+, Journal du Geek reported, citing production documents relayed in recent days.
According to Production List, the Vince Gilligan series has just crossed a crucial step toward the release of its second season, promising significant developments after a thunderous start that immortalized an unprecedented apocalypse.
The news marks a concrete step toward a return for Carol Sturka, the protagonist Rhea Seehorn plays, whom the series describes as the unhappiest person in the world. Rhea Seehorn will return to the role, as will the rest of the cast. The project remains a priority for Apple TV+, even though the company has announced no release date for the new season.
What Vince Gilligan Said About the Schedule
Series creator Vince Gilligan, known for Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, had warned viewers that Pluribus would not return every year with new episodes. Still, with nine episodes planned and only moderate digital effects required, Journal du Geek reports that fans can hope for a return to screens by the end of 2027.
Apple TV+ has kept the release date under wraps for now, leaving the timing of Carol Sturka’s return an open question. If Apple TV+ had ordered two seasons from the start, production of the second batch still had to wait before getting underway.
Where Season 1 Left Carol Sturka
The first season ended with Carol meeting Manousos, another person resistant to the virus that has merged nearly all of humanity into a single consciousness. Together, they appeared ready to go to war to save humanity from enforced conformity, and Carol ended the season holding an atomic bomb, which “the others” had delivered to her on a silver platter.
The series, which sits at the crossroads of genres, follows the unhappiest person on the planet trying to save the world from happiness. Immunized against the virus, Carol discovers that “the others” covet her frozen eggs and “were determined to use them to inoculate her with the virus.” After spending time with Zosia and accepting that the planet would not fall into the hands of beings from elsewhere, she had turned her coat.

Reception and Awards for Season 1
The first season drew both critical enthusiasm and divided reactions: it won six Emmy Awards, including Best Actress for Rhea Seehorn and Best Writing for Vince Gilligan. In France, it currently holds an average rating of 3.9 out of 5 based on 192 votes, with viewers split between praise for its refreshingly different concept and criticism that it grows boring quickly.
Between fans in adoration and viewers disoriented by its very particular rhythm, the series has already established itself as a cult object. One viewer wrote: “New series by Vince Gilligan, the creator of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, but here we are in something totally different.”
When Will Pluribus Season 2 Premiere?
As of now, Apple TV+ has not announced an official release date for Pluribus season 2. The only dated milestone on record is the start of filming on October 31 in Albuquerque, with Journal du Geek projecting a possible return by the end of 2027 if production holds to its nine-episode, moderate-effects plan. With more than two years between seasons, it remains to be seen whether the public will still be there; at Apple TV, as with its competitors, extended delays are not really good for business.
