Salta Province, Municipalities Partner to Fight Vector-Borne Diseases

The Provincial Government formalized a cooperation agreement with municipalities in northern Salta to reinforce actions for the prevention and control of vector-borne diseases, anticipating the peak season for aedes aegypti mosquito activity.

The agreement encompasses Aguas Blancas, colonia Santa Rosa, Embarcación, Pichanal, Rivadavia Banda Norte, Santa Victoria Este, General Ballivián, General Mosconi, Orán, Rivadavia Banda sur, Tartagal, urundel, and Hipólito Yrigoyen-areas identified as having the greatest epidemiological risk.

The Ministry of Public Health is providing communities with a comprehensive plan. This includes continuous epidemiological surveillance, detection and isolation of febrile cases, training for health and municipal personnel, sanitation campaigns, and the supply of essential resources like diagnostic reagents and repellents for health centers.

Secretary of Health, martin Monerris, emphasized during the signing, “The provincial State provides technical and operational resources, but coordination with the municipalities is key to reaching every territory.”

Strategic Input Delivery

A key component of the agreement is the distribution of BTI (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis), a highly effective biological larvicide that eliminates larvae without harming the habitat. Produced in provincial laboratories, BTI ensures availability for targeted control in wells and latrines. Following positive results in the previous season, BTI is being redistributed to strengthen preventative measures.
