PTC Inc. Stock Lags Software Industry, Yet Analysts Remain Optimistic

PTC Inc. shares have faced persistent downward pressure over the past year, underperforming the broader software sector as top-line growth headwinds and lowered revenue guidance weigh on investor sentiment. According to data from Barchart, the Boston-based industrial software provider has slipped 35.8% over the past 52 weeks and dropped 24.8% on a year-to-date basis.

Market Performance and Sector Comparison

The company’s recent stock trajectory lags behind major technology benchmarks. PTC trades well below both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages, confirming a bearish trend that has persisted since early November 2025 according to Barchart reporting. Over a three-month window, the stock gained 12%, trailing the iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF (IGV), which advanced 17.2% over the same timeframe. PTC carries a market capitalization of $14.2 billion, qualifying it as a large-cap player in the software-application industry.

In a direct industry comparison, competitor Dassault Systèmes SE has experienced a milder downturn, recording a 15.7% decline year-to-date and a 28.4% loss over the past 52 weeks according to Barchart. PTC’s core business relies on its computer-aided design (CAD) and product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions, which maintain high customer stickiness among discrete manufacturers.

Drivers of Revenue Pressure

The underperformance stems primarily from strategic portfolio adjustments and macroeconomic friction. Management revised full-year revenue targets downward following the divestitures of its Kepware and ThingWorx product lines. At the same time, enterprise spending deceleration created friction for new Annual Recurring Revenue deals.

Additional downward pressure materialized from heavy insider selling and subsequent analyst downgrades. These factors offset steady underlying profitability within the firm and continuous progress in its artificial intelligence product rollouts, as noted by Barchart.

Analyst Outlook and Price Targets

Despite recent operational hurdles, Wall Street maintains a cautiously optimistic outlook on the stock. Among the 20 analysts covering PTC Inc., the consensus rating stands at a “Moderate Buy.” The mean price target is $172.90, indicating a potential upside of approximately 31.8% from current trading levels, according to data compiled by Barchart.
