Naval Forces Prepare for Malabar 2026 Off Honshu
The United States, Australia, India, and Japan will conduct this year’s iteration of the annual Malabar naval exercise south of the Kanto region on the main island of Honshu from November 5–12, USNI News reported. According to a Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force news release published on Tuesday, the multilateral drills aim to realize a free and open Indo-Pacific through coordinated maritime operations involving surface ships, submarines, and aircraft.

Naval units from all four Quad partners will converge in Japanese waters next week for high-end tactical training.
Fleet Deployments and Participating Assets
The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force will deploy the helicopter destroyer JS Ise (DDH-182), the frigate JS Mogami (FFM-1), a submarine, and a P-1 Maritime Patrol Aircraft, USNI News reported. The Indian Navy is contributing the frigate INS Sahyadri (F49), while Australia has assigned the frigate HMAS Stuart (FFH153) and a Royal Australian Air Force P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft.
The U.S. Navy will provide a P-8A aircraft alongside an amphibious transport dock. Two amphibious transport docks, USS New Orleans (LPD-18) and USS San Diego (LPD-22), are forward-deployed to Sasebo, Japan, with Amphibious Squadron 11. Two other docks, USS Anchorage (LPD-23) and USS John P. Murtha (LPD-26), arrived in Yokosuka on Monday for a port visit as part of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group.
