In addition to “Wayward,” Martin’s podcast, “Handsome,” also received a nomination for Outstanding Podcast.

“Wayward” and Inclusive Storytelling

“Wayward” centers on Martin’s portrayal of a trans cop investigating a reform school in a seemingly idyllic town. “We tried to sort of sneakily break down some barriers by not overtly talking about some of those things. And I think we managed to sneak into the minds of some people,” Martin explained.

Canadian Representation Among Nominees

Other Canadian productions also received GLAAD nominations: “Cactus Pears,” a co-production involving Canada, India, and the U.K., and “The Queen of My Dreams,” the debut film from Canadian filmmaker Fawzia Mirza, both in the Outstanding Film – Limited Release category.
