Ravens' Derrick Henry Moves Into 7th All-Time in NFL Rushing History

Derrick Henry moved into seventh place on the NFL’s all-time rushing list Thursday night, surpassing LaDainian Tomlinson with a 5-yard run in the second quarter against the Jacksonville Jaguars, ESPN reported. Henry, 32, entered the game needing 35 yards to pass Tomlinson’s 13,684 career rushing yards and cleared the mark during a first half in which he also overtook Jerome Bettis.

The milestone came in a makeshift offensive environment. With Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley on injured reserve and rookie Joe Fagnano making his first NFL start, the Ravens turned to Henry as the centerpiece of a Wildcat-heavy attack. Henry took seven direct snaps in the first half and finished it with 51 yards on 12 carries, a 4.3-yard average, according to Ravens Wire. Baltimore trailed 17-3 at halftime and managed only a 53-yard field goal from Jake Moody.

Where Henry Stands on the Career Rushing List

Henry’s first-half production left him at more than 13,700 career yards, moving him ahead of two Hall of Fame running backs in a single game. The updated top nine, using the first-half figures reported by Ravens Wire and the official rankings it supplied:

Two Hall of Famers Passed in One Half

Henry needed only 13 yards to move past Bettis and cleared that mark in the first quarter before overtaking Tomlinson in the second, ESPN reported. Bettis finished his 13-season career with 13,662 yards for the Rams and Steelers and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2015, according to Ravens Wire. Tomlinson, the former NFL MVP, rushed for 13,684 yards over 11 seasons with the Chargers and Jets.

The Tomlinson milestone carried personal weight: Henry grew up owning Tomlinson’s jersey and bobblehead, ESPN reported.
