Detroit Defeats Chicago Behind Viktor Arvidsson Hat Trick
Viktor Arvidsson scored his sixth career hat trick and added an assist to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday. The win pushed Detroit to a 5-1-1 record over its last seven games, overcoming the absence of Dylan Larkin. Arvidsson tallied three goals across the final two periods, bringing his season total to eight goals.
Connor Bedard opened the scoring for Chicago at 5:59 of the first period by backhanding a rebound off a shot from Wyatt Kaiser. The Blackhawks fell to an 0-5 record on the road this season. Spencer Knight stopped 25 shots for Chicago, while John Gibson made 18 saves for Detroit, including a key second-period penalty shot denial against Frank Nazar.
Roster Shuffling Following Dylan Larkin Suspension
The Red Wings played without Larkin after suspending him without pay prior to the opening face-off. Larkin requested a trade during the offseason and stated through his agent that he would no longer play for the organization. Larkin recorded two goals and six assists through his first 10 games of the season, including a tying goal in a shootout victory against Edmonton on Monday.

Andrew Copp replaced Larkin on a line between Lucas Raymond and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard. Copp logged 18:08 of ice time and went 8-for-18 on face-offs. Meanwhile, Chicago altered its forward combinations by keeping the second line of Tyler Bertuzzi, Ryan Donato, and Anton Frondell off the ice entirely during the third period.
Special Teams and Third-Period Separation
Detroit capitalized on special teams to break a 1-1 tie in the second half of the contest. Arvidsson tied the game 1-1 at 7:31 of the middle frame by deflecting a point shot from William Wallinder past Knight. Later in the period, Detroit defenseman Andreas Englund hooked Nazar on a breakaway at 11:18, awarding Chicago a penalty shot that Gibson turned aside with a pad save.

Lucas Raymond put the Red Wings ahead 2-1 at 1:09 of the third period with a power-play goal while Patrick Kane served a high-sticking minor. Arvidsson added insurance at 15:26 by pushing a rebound through a crowded crease following an initial shot by Alex DeBrincat. Arvidsson then sealed the 4-1 final score at 16:45 by shooting into an empty net.
Our second and third periods were outstanding,
Arvidsson said. This is fun, I’m not going to lie. Playing with DeBrincat and Emmitt Finnie has been working really well, and I’m just trying to do my part.

Tributes and Upcoming Schedule
Chicago forward Patrick Kane received a prolonged standing ovation during the first period after the arena broadcast a tribute video celebrating his prior tenure in Detroit. Kane played the previous three seasons with the Red Wings before joining the Blackhawks.
This was a very special place for me for a few years,
Kane said. The fans have been great to me since I came here, and they’ve always been really good with my family.
