Rennes Resident Hailed as Hero After Preventing Neighbor from Re-entering Burning Garage

A quick-thinking resident of Rennes, France, is being lauded for her bravery after preventing her neighbor from running back into a burning garage on March 12, 2026. The incident occurred on rue de Vouziers, and involved a mechanic attempting to salvage vehicles from a workshop engulfed in flames.

The Incident Unfolds

Sandrine, the resident, initially heard a loud noise and suspected a dispute. Though, she quickly discovered her neighbor was attempting to re-enter the burning garage to retrieve a car, and motorcycle. Despite the danger, the mechanic stated, “I did some welding,” and expressed a desperate need to save his friend’s vehicles.

While bystanders called the fire department, Sandrine intervened, physically blocking her neighbor from re-entering the building. “It was already completely black. I blocked him against me. It wasn’t easy. I yelled at him not to arrive back into the house,” she recounted. Her intervention proved crucial, as explosions soon followed.

A Nurse’s Aid and Community Support

A nurse from the nearby Saint-Yves clinic arrived on the scene and provided immediate first aid to the mechanic, Pierrick, who had sustained injuries. The nurse provided hydration to prevent dehydration, noting his shoe was shredded and his pants were sticking to his leg.

Sandrine expressed concern for her neighbor’s well-being, stating he was transported to a hospital in Nantes specializing in severe burns.
