Governor Weretilneck to Showcase Río Negro’s Mining Potential at Canadian Summit

Río Negro Province, Argentina, is set to present its burgeoning mining sector to international investors at the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) convention in Toronto next week. Governor Alberto Weretilneck will lead a technical delegation to the event, aiming to attract investment and bolster the province’s productive development.

Río Negro’s Mining Opportunities

The PDAC, the world’s premier mining convention, attracts approximately 30,000 attendees from over 130 countries. Governor Weretilneck will highlight the province’s mining potential, focusing on 51 ongoing projects and the anticipated commencement of gold exports within two months. The province is as well actively pursuing uranium exploitation, with several projects already presented and investments secured to advance feasibility studies.

Focus on Uranium and Strategic Resources

Weretilneck emphasized the importance of knowledge exchange with leading Canadian mining jurisdictions and expertise in nuclear technology, particularly concerning uranium development. “In addition to the potential of the resource, we have to show our mining policy, the political continuity, the legal certainty, the fiscal stability and the regulatory framework of the province, key to attracting investments from the Canadian stock market,” he stated.

The governor underscored Río Negro’s stability and predictability as key factors attracting foreign investment, not only in mining but also in sectors like gas, oil, agriculture, and livestock. “The arrival of foreign investments is possible thanks to the normality and predictability that Río Negro has, one of the provinces most watched today for investing,” Weretilneck noted.

Governor Weretilneck’s Background

Alberto Weretilneck has served as the governor of Río Negro Province since December 2023, and previously held the same position from 2012 to 2019. He also served as a National Senator for Río Negro from 2019 to 2023 and as the intendente (mayor) of Cipolletti from 2007 to 2011.
