Robert Carlyle Joins Line of Duty Series 7 as Detective Constable Shaun Massie

Scottish actor Robert Carlyle, known for his roles in Trainspotting and The Full Monty, has been cast as the guest lead in the upcoming seventh series of the BBC police procedural drama, Line of Duty. The announcement was made on February 19, 2026, by the BBC.

Carlyle will portray Detective Constable Shaun Massie, a specialist rifle officer within the Tactical Operations Unit. DC Massie is described as a “gruff loner” tasked with tackling organized crime groups. The storyline will explore a shift in his demeanor when his commanding officer is accused of sexual predation.
