Roman Röösli plants 350 trees on his new farm in Sempach Station
Olympic rowing medalist Roman Röösli, 33, has bought a farm in Sempach Station, Lucerne, where he is transitioning to a career as an organic fruit and nut farmer, blick.ch reported. Röösli, who won a bronze medal in the coxless pair at the 2024 Paris Olympics with partner Andrin Gulich, 27, is planting 350 trees to establish a direct-sale harvest of apples, pears, plums, peaches, damsons, and chestnuts. Davon habe ich schon lange geträumt,
Röösli stated about owning his own farm.
The former world champion secured the property, named Hof Gritzenmoos, after an extended search. While he officially moves onto the farm with his partner, Alina, and their one-year-old son, Lino, on January 1, work on the land began during the autumn off-season. The farm spans roughly 20 football fields, covering 14.5 hectares. So viele Bäume hätte ich schon alleine einsetzen können, aber dann wäre ich lange damit beschäftigt gewesen,
Röösli noted.
Swiss rowing national team arrives to dig tree holes
With hundreds of saplings to get into the ground, Röösli received assistance from the Swiss rowing national team, providing him with around 30 helping hands for the day following a briefing on the farm. Athletes and staff from the national squad, currently based in Sarnen for winter training, traveled to Sempach Station to help dig holes and plant the new orchard.
Participants included double quad European champions Lisa Lötscher, Flavia Lötscher, and Nina Wettstein, alongside the world championship bronze-winning pair of Salome Ulrich and Fabienne Schweizer, and head coach Alexis Besancon. By the end of the day, the crew completed all 350 planting holes and set the first 50 trees, though the rowing novices had to observe diverse details while working.
