EuroGiant Enters Liquidation: Jobs at Risk Across Ireland
The future of 640 jobs across Ireland is uncertain as discount retailer EuroGiant has entered court-appointed liquidation. The company, operating 77 stores nationwide including two locations in County Roscommon – in Roscommon Town and Monksland – cited rising costs and increased competition as factors contributing to the decision.
EuroGeneral Limited and Bushgrove Limited, the entities behind the EuroGiant chain, confirmed the liquidation to RTE news, marking the end of over three decades in business as its inception as a single store on Moore street in Dublin in 1990. A company spokesperson stated that escalating rent and operating expenses, coupled with a challenging retail landscape, rendered the current business model unsustainable.
Despite the liquidation announcement, EuroGiant stores will continue to operate as normal while a comprehensive review of the store network is undertaken. The company expressed gratitude to its staff for their dedication and hard work throughout the years, acknowledging the impact of this decision on employees.
