Norwegian EU Membership: poll Shows Shift in Public opinion

Oslo, Norway – February 5, 2026 – Recent polling data indicates a potential shift in Norwegian public opinion regarding potential membership in the European Union.A new survey conducted by Opinion for Everything reveals that 48% of Norwegians would currently vote against joining the EU, marking a seven-percentage-point decrease since the August 2025 poll. This is the first time as February 2023 that opposition too EU membership has fallen below 50%.

The survey results show that 38% of respondents would vote in favor of Norway joining the EU, with 2% remaining undecided. This represents a notable increase in support for membership compared to previous polls.

Regional variations

Meaningful regional differences in opinion are apparent.Support for EU membership is strongest in Oslo, where 52% of voters would support joining, while 32% would oppose it. This contrasts with other regions where opposition remains higher.

Age Demographics play a Key Role

Age appears to be a significant factor influencing voting intentions.Voters over the age of 40 demonstrate a more positive outlook towards EU membership, with the 60+ age group showing a near-even split – 43% in favor and 46% opposed. Conversely, younger voters under 30 are more likely to oppose membership, with 55% indicating they would vote against and 30% in favor.

These findings suggest a complex and evolving public debate surrounding Norway’s relationship with the EU, with demographic factors playing a crucial role in shaping individual perspectives. Further polling will be necessary to determine whether this trend continues and how it might influence future political discussions on the matter.
