Bedlam’s Othello Announces Cast and April 19th Opening

Bedlam, known for its innovative and pared-down classical theater, has announced the cast for its upcoming production of William Shakespeare’s Othello. Performances begin April 19 at the West End Theatre in New York City and will run through May 31.

A Four-Actor Adaptation

This production of Othello features a cast of just four actors – Susannah Hoffman, Susannah Millonzi, Ryan Quinn, and Eric Tucker – who will collectively portray the play’s 19 roles. This approach aligns with Bedlam’s history of reimagining classical works with modest casts, returning the company to its origins. Ryan Quinn, a Bedlam company member, has previously appeared in Bedlam productions of Hedda Gabler, The Crucible, Sense and Sensibility, and Dead Dog Park [Instagram]. He also has Off-Broadway credits including Whorl Inside a Loop, and productions with Theater for a New Audience and Pearl Theatre Company.

Exploring Themes of Manipulation and Identity

The production delves into the destructive power of manipulation, as Iago’s schemes unravel Othello’s life and expose the precarious nature of societal acceptance. The play examines how conditional esteem from white society impacts Othello’s sense of agency, and identity.

Creative Team

Eric Tucker directs the production, also serving as the sound designer. The creative team also includes associate director Caitlin Morley, assistant director Maya Shore, costume designer Sam Debell, and lighting designer Cheyenne Sykes.

Performance Details

Othello will be performed at the West End Theatre, located at 263 West 86th Street, New York, NY 10024. Tickets are currently on sale, starting at $45 [Facebook].
