Ignas Urbonas Out for Four Months After Shoulder Surgery

Vilnius “Rytas” basketball player Ignas Urbonas will miss approximately four months of basketball action and requires shoulder surgery following an injury sustained during a FIBA Champions League match against Trabzonspor. The 18-year-old player got hurt on October 28 in Vilnius during the first quarter when he fouled Turkish club guard Isaiah Canaan, grabbed his shoulder, and walked to the locker room in visible pain.

Surgery Scheduled for Next Week Following Strong Start

Medical intervention for the 18-year-old is scheduled for next week. Before exiting the October 28 game against Trabzonspor, Urbonas started in the opening five and recorded 6 points, 4 rebounds, and 9 efficiency points in 7 minutes of play. In the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) this season, the Utena-native averaged 7 minutes across four games, putting up 1.8 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.5 efficiency points per contest. In three FIBA Champions League appearances, he averaged 5 minutes, 3 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 4 efficiency points.

Stadium Celebrations Contrast with Mounting Injury Crisis

While Vilnius “Rytas” secured a 97-81 victory over Trabzonspor to close the first round of the Champions League group stage with a 2-1 record, head coach Nedas Pacevičius voiced mixed feelings due to the team’s growing injury list. Alongside Urbonas, “Rytas” is currently treating Martynas Paliukėnas, who was injured against Juventus in Utena and faces about half a year on the sidelines, while Matas Jogėla expects to return to the floor shortly. The match also drew notable spectators, with television host Justinas Jankevičius and businessman Arvydas Avulis spotted celebrating in the stands.
