SAPD Officer Suspended After Being Found Drunk Off-Duty
San Antonio Police Officer Juan Pena received a three-day suspension in January 2026 after being found intoxicated and lying on a sidewalk while off-duty, according to records obtained by KSAT Investigates.
The incident occurred in August 2025, around 2:45 am, near the intersection of Jones Maltsberger and Thousand Oaks. SAPD officers discovered Pena lying on his back on the sidewalk. Records indicate Pena was slurring his speech and believed he was near his home, which was actually seven miles away.
Officers reported smelling a strong odor of alcohol on Pena, who admitted to consuming alcohol at a bar prior to the incident according to suspension paperwork. Pena has been with the San Antonio Police Department since 2010.
This incident is one of several recent cases involving San Antonio police officers facing disciplinary action. KSAT Investigates has reported on other suspensions, including cases involving improper handling of drunk driving crashes.
