Santa Monica Studio stated that the extra time will allow the team to handle essential polish and push the game’s potential as far as possible. The developer emphasized that it does not take player trust for granted. Shifting away from a crowded early-2027 release window gives the title vital breathing room, while supplying Sony with a major first-party anchor for the spring season.
Stepping Into Faye’s Shoes in the Afterlife
When the game drops in May, players will control an entirely new playable protagonist in Faye, flipping the perspective of the franchise. Her death takes place right before the story of 2018’s God of War kicks off, serving as the foundational catalyst for the modern saga. Players will now experience her isolated aftermath.
Because Faye’s afterlife journey takes place in this specific setting, God of War: Faye runs completely parallel to the events of God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok. Fans already understand the deep impact her death left on the broader universe, but this release finally highlights her unseen combat. Alongside the studio’s signature deep mythological storytelling, the project introduces unexpected, whimsical world-building additions, including a character described as a talking jelly cube.
